gods word
Have you ever made a promise? Or have you ever had a promise made to you only to wait on it, and they never make good on the promise? It's frustrating when the words of others are not reliable. The truth is that our Word may not always be trustworthy either. I think of all of the New Year resolutions I made in the past, only to have a change of mind three weeks into January. Our words as humans are not always reliable. And I think sometimes we can confuse the certainty of God's Word with the uncertainty of Man's Word.
His Word is Reliable! Thank God He is not like us! He is faithful even if we are not! (2 Timothy 2:13) We may feel like we cannot always rely on others, but scripture and experience teach us that we can ALWAYS count on God. We know we can trust in His promises. If we are honest, we love the promise! But we don't always love the timing of the promise. But the timing does not change the fact that His promises and His Words are reliable.
His Word is not only reliable, but it is also POWERFUL! The Word of God created our entire universe. He said it, and it happened! The same power that created the universe is working in you. If He says it (whatever IT is), it will happen! If He has called you to do something, you can because you walk in His power. His Word is powerful enough to carry us through any season and guide us in any circumstance.
His Word is CHALLENGING. We often say we want to hear the voice of God, but the truth is that when we do hear his voice, we don't always want to listen. Rarely does God call us to easy things. His Word will lead us into His will, and His will brings a challenge to our lives. I think of the story when Peter walks on water. Peter is willing to step off the boat at the WORD of Jesus. Jesus could've called Peter out of the boat on a sunny day when it was a little easier. However, He calls Him out in the middle of the storm to stretch His faith. The Word of God will challenge us to step out of comfort even in the middle of a storm. We may not want to step off, but if we do, we find that obedience in the storm is much more peaceful than disobedience for the sake of comfort.
We can hear His voice if we would take some time to listen. My question is, if you did hear Him, would you do what He says, or would you stay in your comfort?
God is not like us; His Word is trustworthy! Even in the storms of life.
