evaluation of faith

What do you believe? Not what you say you "believe" or what kind of church you attend. What is the foundation of your faith? Often we can confuse ministry with faith. Many things come with our faith that, if we are not careful, can cause us to lose focus on where our faith is found.

I have had many seasons in life where ministry became the focus, and I would lose sight of Jesus. I became focused on my acts of service to Jesus instead of my love for Jesus. Instead of sitting at the feet of Jesus, I was distracted by preparing the house (or the church). In these seasons, I would often need to take a step back and re-evaluate my faith. Was I living a life that genuinely believed in the gospel, or was I becoming a churchgoer? Ministry would become the foundation for my faith, and that is a weak one that would fall apart through any storm.

We can get lost in ministry, in church services, in the "trying," that we forget the whole reason we are doing these things in the first place. We must have moments of evaluations—a time in our lives where we remember the foundation of our faith. We must not lose our faith, religion, and tradition. Faith must always be in Christ!

Let's go back to the simple gospel. We believe that Jesus is Lord. We believe that His finished work on the cross saves us! He died on the cross for our sins and rose again! We now have the Holy Spirit living in us that changes our nature. He makes us righteous. He makes us Holy. This truth is why we have devoted our lives! The reality that Jesus is the savior, and we want everyone to know!

If we genuinely believe this gospel, it changes everything in our lives. We cannot live the old way and claim our faith in Christ. Faith in Christ produces a new nature in us. Has this truth changed your life? If not, maybe it's time to re-evaluate where your faith is found. Is your faith found in Jesus, or is it getting lost in religion? I pray we all come back to our simple love for Jesus and that our faith would be found in Him.
