Gratitude
There have been many seasons in my life where I find it hard to be grateful. I know that scripture encourages us to be thankful in every season, but that's sometimes easier said than done. I began to really think about this. We all have so much to be grateful for, even if our life is not perfect, we still have a reason for gratitude.
But what robs us from our ability to live gratefully? I believe it is when we live a life of comparison. If we are constantly comparing our lives with someone else's, we will never be able to live grateful lives.
If I want to live a life of gratitude, I must first stop comparing myself to somebody else. We all live different lives, with different outcomes, in different seasons. Still, everyone who is in Christ has a common reason for gratefulness. That reason is CHRIST.
I don't have to possess everything my heart desires to be grateful because I already have MORE than enough in Christ. I have been grafted into a heavenly family, and I have access to the presence of God! What can be better than that?! This great treasure that we possess to know Christ is something that never changes. It doesn't end. Unlike earthly things, it never loses value. And this is the foundation of my gratitude. It is not the stuff I have or the season I am in, because those things will always change. My consistent foundation for gratitude is that I am loved by God and welcomed into His family.
So when you go through tough times, when everything seems to be falling apart, remember what you possess. Let the foundation for your gratitude be Christ.
