How to change the world.
Have you ever had a moment where you sit and ponder how your life has gone? You know, those moments when you sit and think of everything you could have done better. As your failures and your victories, all pass through your mind, and you consider how you could've handled them differently.
I recently had one of these moments as I was reading the book of second Timothy. Paul writes such a compelling statement, he says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." He is writing this letter to Timothy while in prison. He knows that he is at the end of his days. I can picture him reminiscing on all that he has gone through, all of the good times and the bad times.
But when it is all over, he can confidently say that he finished strong. As I was reading this, I began to wonder, "How did Paul finish strong? What did he do with his life that made such a great impact?".
Of course, Paul did many great things, He made such a tremendous difference in the World. And he did this by investing in others. I genuinely believe that if I want to change the World, I need to quit living selfishly and begin to live for others.
Our most significant impact is made when we choose to invest in others. This is discipleship. Investing from person to person. Building up others and helping them find and accomplish their God-given destiny. However, we cannot pour into others if we are empty. If we want to successfully invest in others, we must be invested in by others. Now, when I say we must be filled, I do not just mean with information. If we want to build strong spiritual leaders, we must be filled with the Spirit, not just head knowledge. If we are going to pour into others, we must have something to pour out. Being filled with the Spirit of God is the only way to truly invest in others and leave a lasting legacy.
So this means that we must be invested in! I like to say it this way, especially when it comes to building disciples, "it takes one to make one." If I want to lead others, I must be lead by somebody else.
So with this in mind, we must ask ourselves, "am I the type of person that I would want to lead?" Are you teachable? Are you willing to be corrected? Are you willing to be lead? If you cannot answer "yes" to these questions, you will not be ready to LEAD.
When I am at the end of my days, I want to say what Paul said: That I finished strong. So if I want to say what he said, I must do what he did. If we genuinely want to leave a legacy. If we're going to change the World, then we must invest in others.
