5 things leaders need to stop now!

Something I am very passionate about and trying to learn more about is Leadership. I by no means am an expert; there is still a whole lot for me to learn. But over the years of Leadership in ministry and now pastoring a church, I have learned quite a bit. I have learned a lot of the "what not to do's".

Today I want to write about five things we need to stop doing as leaders.

Stop comparing.

When my family and I were getting ready to launch our church, we were launching at the same time as another church (a wonderful, Godly church!). This church was much bigger than ours, had more people, and a great pastor. I couldn't help but compare what we were doing to what they were doing. This attitude brought discouragement! I felt the Lord working on me concerning this. The problem with comparison is that it robs the significance of our season from us. If I am so focused on what others are doing, I will lose focus on what God has called me to do.

Stop leading on Empty.

If we are not careful, we can give so much as leaders without ever refilling our tank. Leading on empty leads to burnout; burnout leads to quitting! We find our fulfillment in Christ. It's great to read books and learn new strategies but don't ever stray from the source of your fulfillment. Don't lead on empty but be filled with the Spirit!

Stop Being Prideful.

Pride is something I had to battle with and still do! Pride will give us the "I know it all" attitude. We THINK we are doing great, but we have just convinced ourselves and are too proud to receive correction from anyone. Pride blinds us from our self-destruction; this will lead to organizational destruction. Don't lead with pride; lead with humility!

Stop being impatient.

I know we all tend to want to move forward fast! There is nothing wrong with having a vision, but don't move so quickly that you or your organization is not prepared. We want to skip from step 1 to step 5, but steps 2,3, and 4 prepare us to handle the weight of step 5. Be patient and use wisdom to lead you as you lead others. Trust in the voice of the Lord!

Stop being complacent.

Impatience will cause us to move when we are supposed to wait, but complacency will cause us to stay when we are supposed to move. If your ministry is blessed, that's great! But don't just linger in the blessing because it's easy. Dream! Set Goals! Make plans! I was encouraged a long time ago to treat my ministry how I envision it one day. If I have a vision for a larger church, I will prepare and treat my church as I believe it will be one day. We can't just sit and wait for growth; we must be intentional with it.

1. Stop Comparing.

2. Stop Leading on Empty

3. Stop Being Prideful.

4. Stop Being Impatient.

5. Stop Being Complacent.
