leadership questions

We as leaders must create safeguards in our life to make sure we are always leading to the best of our capabilities. Sometimes, our safeguards will be revealing, uncomfortable, and challenging. However, we can't let those results cause us to go on with our leadership without "checks and balances". I want to help you with three questions you can ask yourself to remain effective in your leadership.

The number one and most important question is this: "How am I Leading?"

If they are not careful, most leaders will allow unhealthy emotions and attitudes to enter into their hearts. We protect our hearts from this by spending time with Jesus.

Time with Jesus should always be our resting and launching place. If you are not spending time with Him, you cannot lead like Him. If we are not spending time with Jesus, where does our wisdom come from? How are we being filled as we pour out into others?

Most "Christian" leaders become so busy with the ministry that we neglect the place of fulfillment. And as we ignore that space, we lead on empty, and that's not good for us or those who follow.

That leads us to our second question: "Who am I Leading?"

Anyone can have a title, but only true leaders have followers. I would even say that some in your church/ministry group are leading WITHOUT a title. So if nobody is following you, who exactly are you leading?

Are you being intentional with reaching out to others? Are you making yourself available to serve, or do you want a title only to BE served?

Is your life something others would want to model? (Now we see why these safeguards can be challenging). Are you living a life that inspires and motivates, or are you just being a "BOSS"?

And as we navigate the question of who is following, it takes us to our last question: "Where am I Leading them to?"

Unhealthy leadership only wants followers to accomplish THEIR vision. Godly leaders LEAD others to achieve the will of God. Unhealthy leaders desire copies of themselves; Godly leaders want to develop people into who God has called them to be. I don't want people to be like ME; I want them to be like JESUS.

If I want them to live like Jesus, how can I be an example to them if IM not living like Jesus? We can't lead others to a place we have never been, and we cant teach them to be something we are not. If others were to follow you, as you are right now, where would they be going?

Three questions to ask yourself as you lead: 1. How am I leading? 2. Who am I leading? 3. Where am I leading them?
