don’t waste the wait.
I have never really liked waiting. As a kid, the year would always go by fast, right up until the holidays. It seemed like once the Christmas lights started going up, time froze. I loved Christmas, especially as a kid! the 25 days of waiting always felt like an eternity. I wouldn't say I liked the days of waiting. Now, not much has changed since then. I still love Christmas time (although it's for different reasons now), and, still, I don't particularly appreciate waiting.
I don't like waiting in traffic (thank God there is much less traffic in the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS). I don't like waiting in lines at theme parks, and so on and so on. The seasons of waiting can often feel like a season of wasting. However, over the years, I have learned that I should never waste a season of waiting.
What can we do in our seasons of waiting? Maybe you're waiting for the Lord to open a door for your ministry, or maybe your waiting for the right person to establish a Godly relationship. Whatever you're waiting for, there are two things you can do so that you take full advantage of this season in your life.
Use the waiting not as a season to sit but a season to prepare. Being passionate about your future is GREAT! It might get you TO the next phase, but being prepared is better. Let's say you find someone to marry. Are you prepared to be a good husband or wife? Or are you just passionate about the idea of being married? If God opens the door you've been praying to be opened, are you prepared not just to walk through it but to thrive in it? In the waiting, don't just be passionate; get prepared.
If you are waiting for the next, don't rush it but enjoy the ride. I remember my last days of being with our young adult ministry. We were at a retreat, and my wife and I knew we were moving to Texas, but nobody else did. I recall just looking around the room and feeling the joy of being with that group. Over the last months of transition, we took it all in. If we aren't careful, we can miss significant moments as we look too far ahead. If God called you to something, walk in obedience. You don't need to rush it! Enjoy the simple days! Remember this; every new season comes with unique battles. Enjoy the RIDE!
Waiting is not always fun, but it doesn't need to be wasted. In the waiting, prepare for the next and enjoy the now.
